I've bought reading pillows before and they all went flat. Why would this one be any different?

Most reading pillows use shredded foam that compresses permanently. This one uses pearl cotton, a hollow-fibre fill that springs back every time. It holds its shape under a sitting torso. That is the one thing a sleeping pillow cannot do.

It's £49 for a pillow. I can get something on Amazon for £25.

The £25 ones are the ones that go lumpy within weeks, which is why you're here. Pearl cotton fill, armrests that actually carry your arm weight, and a machine-washable cover are not things you get at £25.

It looks quite big. Is it going to take over my whole bed?

It is 75 cm wide, designed to cover your back without spilling onto your partner's side of a standard double. Most people find it takes up less space than the pillows they were stacking before.

I don't have a headboard. Will it just slide down the wall?

It holds its position against any flat surface under your weight. The triangular base distributes the load into the wall rather than away from it. No headboard needed.

They tried our Reading Pillow They loved it

Got this for gaming in bed after my neck started giving me grief. The armrests actually hold my elbows at the right height so I'm not hunching forward anymore. My partner keeps nicking it to watch telly.

I work from bed sometimes and the slouching was getting bad. This keeps me properly upright without feeling like I'm sitting on a chair. It's a bit bigger than I expected but it fits fine and I wouldn't go back.

I'd been stacking two pillows behind me every night for years and just accepted the neck ache as part of reading in bed. This is the first thing that's actually kept me upright for a full chapter without having to readjust. Genuinely didn't expect it to make such a difference.

I was sceptical because I'd tried a husband pillow years ago and it went flat within a month. This one hasn't budged. Still holds its shape after a few weeks of nightly use, which is more than I can say for anything else I've tried.

My arms used to go tingly after about twenty minutes of scrolling in bed. Honestly thought that was just normal. The armrests on this thing are the bit that sorted it — my shoulders have completely stopped aching in the evenings.

You put your book down. Not because you wanted to.

You put your book down. Not because you wanted to.

Every reader knows that moment. The evening was going well. Then it wasn't. And you have quietly accepted it as just the way things are.

You have been propping yourself up with the wrong pillow every single night

Every time you put your book down early because your hands went numb or your neck started aching, it was not a posture problem. It was a pillow problem. The Pillow Lane Reading Pillow was built for the way you actually live in your bed, so your evenings can finally feel the way they were supposed to.

Your hands go numb because you are sitting against the wrong pillow

Sleeping pillows have no vertical structure, they collapse the moment you sit up. The Pillow Lane Reading Pillow holds your spine upright and rests your arms, so you can stay as long as you want.

Got questions?

Everything you need to know.

Won't it just go flat like the others?

+

Pearl cotton is a hollow-fibre fill that bounces back every time. It was never designed to lie flat, unlike the polyester in most reading pillows. Crush it, sit on it, sleep on it: it holds.

Is £49 really worth it for a pillow?

+

Every time you put your book down early because your hands went numb, that is the cost of the wrong pillow. One pillow that actually holds you upright, for as long as you want to sit, is worth more than three cheap ones that don't.

Will the armrests actually reach my arms?

+

The armrests are positioned at the natural resting height of your elbows when you sit upright. They carry the weight of both arms so your trapezius muscles don't have to. That is exactly what stops your hands going numb.

Won't it make me too hot?

+

The velvet cover breathes and the pearl cotton fill doesn't trap heat the way memory foam does. Most people find it comfortable year-round, including in summer.

I don't have a headboard. Will it stay put?

+

It sits flat against any wall or surface and holds its position under your weight without sliding. No headboard needed.

How is this different from a husband pillow?

+

A husband pillow is filled with cheap shredded foam that goes lumpy and flat within weeks. It was designed for occasional use, not the long sit. The Pillow Lane Reading Pillow uses pearl cotton and a monobloc structure built to hold vertical posture every evening, not just the first few times.
